Teams Looking board

The Teams Looking board lists teams that want events to fill their schedules, so hosts can find teams for open spots. It lives at /<state>/teams-looking, for example /mn/teams-looking, with an address for each level: /mn/teams-looking/high-school, /mn/teams-looking/middle-school, and /mn/teams-looking/youth.

Anyone can browse it. Logged in, you can Save search and message teams. Everyone sees Post that we’re looking at the top. Logged out, it takes you through login first. Only open posts with dates still ahead show up here; filled and past posts drop off.

The heading reads “Teams Looking for Events”, with “Teams that want events to fill their schedules. Hosts: find teams for your event here and message them.” Post that we’re looking opens the post form.

The line under the heading explains the level you’re on, as on the events page.

The filters work like the ones on the events page, and they’re saved in the page address too. On a computer they sit in the Filters sidebar on the left, a stack of dropdowns that stays in place while the results scroll, with Clear all at the top once a filter is set. Select the × in a filter’s box to clear it.

To see another state’s board, use the State dropdown in the header, to the right of the ? Help button. It opens the board for the new state and keeps your filters.

The Level dropdown comes first, with the same choices as the events page: All levels, High school, Middle school, or Youth and club. Choosing one opens that level’s board, like /mn/teams-looking/youth.

Under it:

Filter What’s in it
Gender Any gender until you pick Boys/Co-ed or Girls.
Dates Any dates until you pick This weekend, This week, Next week, This month, Rest of this season, Next season, or Date range… with From and To. Shows teams whose dates overlap.
Wants Any kind of event until you pick the kind of event the team wants, like Dual or Individual tournament.

More filters, at the bottom, is closed unless one of its filters is in use, including a starting point for distances or a Within limit. If it’s open and the sidebar doesn’t fit in the window, the sidebar scrolls on its own. It has the rest, in this order:

Filter What it does
Distance from A ZIP code or city; if you’re in an organization, distances start from it. Use my location sits under it (your browser asks permission first).
Within Appears once there’s a starting point. With a limit set, the hint reads “Includes nearby states”: the board includes teams across the state line inside that distance.
Age division Youth and club only.
Varsity / JV All levels and High school.
Style All levels and Youth and club. Folkstyle, freestyle, or Greco-Roman.
Keyword Team, city, or notes.
Can host Shows only teams that offered to host a dual or tri.

A shaded band above the results holds:

  • Filters (phones and narrow windows only): opens the filters in a sheet.
  • The count, like “5 teams”, and where distances are measured from.
  • Sort: Date, Newest, or Distance when there’s a starting point.
  • View: Compact or List. The board has no map and no CSV download.

On a phone, the results bar sticks to the top of the screen as you scroll.

Save search, the bookmark in the results bar, emails you when a new team matches this search. It shows whenever there are results, and also when a filtered search has no results yet. Logged out, it takes you to log in first, and after you log in the dialog opens. The dialog’s Dates choice works like the one on the events page. See Saved searches.

Compact is the default: one line per team, with a date block for the first day it’s looking for (a “+” when there are more days), the team’s organization, a Can host badge if they offered to host, “Looking for” with the dates, the city and team size, the distance from your starting point, then tags for the divisions, the kinds of events wanted, and styles, and the team’s travel limit (“Will drive up to 1 hr 30 min”). Select anywhere on the line to open the post page, where you can Message this team.

List shows dates, team, city, divisions, wants, can host, distance, contact, and email in columns you can sort and filter. The email is blank for teams that keep it private.

The board shows up to 200 teams at a time. If no teams are posted yet, it says “No Teams Looking Yet” and offers Post that we’re looking. If nothing matches your filters, it says “No Teams Match These Filters” and links to the guide for posting that your team is looking.

  • There’s no sidebar. Select Filters in the results bar to open the same filters in a sheet from the bottom, and Show results to close it.
  • The results bar sticks to the top as you scroll, and the view buttons show icons only.
  • Compact lines stack in one column.
